All you have to do is go out to your backyard. The hibiscus plant stretches with a handful of green leaves. When this hibiscus leaves and flowers are crushed, it becomes a natural conditioner.

It is best to take hibiscus leaf of plant having small dark red flowers. When synthetic shampoos are used, it penetrates deep into the scalp and completely eliminates the natural oiliness of the scalp. This causes dryness of the scalp and dandruff. The green leaf stands only on the surface of the skull. It also helps to give shine and blackness to the hair. Do not crush the leaves in a mixer. The heat generated during the working of mixer destroys its naturalness. Soak the leaves in water for a while to get the juice.

Oil bath

It is said that the secret of the beauty of Keralites is the habit of bathing twice a day. It’s not just a bath, it’s a good oil bath. There are some rules for an oil bath. Cold oil does not stick to the body quickly. So heat the empty pot slightly. Pour a little good oil into the pot on the fire. When the oil is hot, it can be applied on the body for 20 minutes.

Apply oil on body and hair. Boiled and dehydrated coconut oil is good for hair. Apply the oil on the scalp at the base of the scalp.

Pea powder can be used to remove body wax. Common bath soaps contain casting soda. Heat a frying pan. Then grind the pea well in a mixer. This powder can be filtered and stored. For dry skin, soaked peas can be used instead of soap.

To get good color

It is said that roasted saffron mixed with milk during pregnancy gives good color to the fetus. In fact, the color of the skin is completely inherited. However, it is true that adding 2-4 drops of pure saffron to a glass of boiled milk and consuming it daily will brighten the skin of both mother and baby.

Saffron oil is good for removing blemishes on the face and softening the skin. This is an expensive ointment. Take two or three drops in the palm of your hand and apply on the face. After three and a half hours, rinse with lukewarm water.

Most of the fruits can be used directly as a face pack. Take one teaspoon each of tomato juice and lemon juice and apply on face for 30 minutes. When washed, it gives a good glow to the face. Honey and lemon juice can be applied evenly.

Take 50 ml of unboiled milk. Add a tablespoon of lemon juice to it. You can add a pinch of salt to keep the milk from melting. Apply on face with a thin cotton cloth. This is a perfect combination to soften the skin. You can also put a face pack with a mixture of lemon juice in the cucumber paste.

The skin on the elbows and knees is darker and harder. Applying either Eladi oil, Nalpamaradi oil or Dineshavalya oil on the body will reduce the roughness of the skin.

In colder climates, it is better to apply good oil on the body. If you have dry and itchy skin, you can apply Patolakeraghritam. The effect can be seen quickly in young children. Even after bathing, it is better to take two drops of Patolakeraghritam and apply it on the face. This will help keep the oil off the skin.

Blurring of the eyes

 There is a traditional way of making kajal. Gently grind the anjanakallu (available at the herb store). Mix the powder with sesame oil and mix well. Apply this mixture on a brass pot. Burn a wick soaked in oil and point towards it. Once the paste is well blackened, let it cool. It can then be scraped and stored. Take as needed and write the eyes.

Apply some yoghurt around the eyes to remove the dark circles. Applying red sandalwood powder in unboiled milk will also eliminate acne on the skin.


Turmeric is known for its medicinal properties as it fights bacteria. It is good to apply turmeric powder mixed with sesame oil on the body of children. Turmeric can also be used to remove unwanted hair on the limbs and face. Mix wheat flour and turmeric powder in equal proportions. Apply on face for at least half an hour. If this is done for a week, the hair will fall out and the skin will look beautiful.

For shining teeth

Ayurveda says that you should not use anything too sweet to clean your teeth. The ancients used to used mango leaves to brush their teeth. It is rare for people to continue such old habits even in a busy life.

Today we use a variety of mouth refreshers to get rid of bad breath. Instead, chew cardamom. Those who do not like the taste of cardamom can take cloves. Chewing betel leaf and cardamom leaves also helps in maintaining good dental health.
